Leucoderma is a situation in which the skin layers experience loss of skin-pigment. Also recognized as vitiligo, leucoderma causes white patches on the skin surface. It is more ordinary in women than in men and is mostly seen on the hands, neck, back and wrist. The word literally means white skin. There is a gradual loss of the pigment melanin from the skin layers which results in white patches. These patches look ugly, especially in persons with a dark complexion. The situation does not reason any organic harm. This disease is caused neither by any germs, nor is it due to bad blood. It is considered to be neither infectious nor contagious.

Symptoms of Leucoderma
1. The whiteness starts as a small discolored white or pale brown spot, which spreads and becomes whiter after a few days, finally turning milky white in color
2. Alopecia or loss of hair
3. Premature graying of hair
4. General weakness
5. Sensitivity towards cold
6. Hair on the affected area also become white
Treatment of Leucoderma
Allopathy Treatment:
The most effective drugs for leucoderma are Psoralen, Melonocyl and few others. Skin is exposed to sun after applying these medicines topically. Sometimes antioxidants are given orally. Anotehr theraoy is called PUVA in which Psoralen is applied and then skin is exposed to uiltra violet rays.
Homeopathy Treatment:
Homeopathy offers a very effective treatment as it goes to the root of the problem and builds up the immunity. This gradually restores the pigment back to original form and skin color becomes normal.
Home Remedies for Treating Leucoderma: -
1. The patient should be kept on a salt-free diet as the absence of salt in the diet wilf speed up the recovery. Only rock salt is advised and that too in small quantities. Vegetables with a bitter taste like bitter gourd are beneficial.
2. Increase the consumption of walnuts and figs. While walnuts purify blood, figs have healing properties to cure leucoderma.
3. Neem is very effective in treating leucoderma. Try to drink a glass of neem juice everyday.
4. Soak spiraled seeds in ginger juice for 3 days. Thereafter, dry them and grind to make a fine powder. Have 1 gram of this powder, with a glass of milk, for about a month. You can also apply this powder on white patches.
5. Exposure to sun and heat should be avoided. The patient should avoid worry and mental strain. If he is costive, that condition should be ameliorated first before the regimen indicated above can help.
6. Radish treatment: Take about 35 gram of powdered radish seeds and make a paste of it by mixing with 2 tsp of vinegar. Apply this regularly over the white patches on the skin.
